Alexander Road Bridge 90-day Road Closures
Please be advised that beginning Friday, June 27, 2008, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJ DOT) will begin a permanent detour around the Alexander Road Bridge effectively closing Alexander and North Post Roads in the area of the bridge (map). This detour is currently scheduled to continue until September 25, 2008 barring any delays. The NJ DOT is working with West Windsor Township, local police, Mercer County, and NJ Transit to address concerns by residents and motorists and to ensure traffic safety in the area of work zones.
The bridge project is now approximately 60% complete. During this 90-day closure, the contractor will construct new roadways and tie into the existing roadways; complete the bridge; complete the retaining walls and roundabout including sidewalks; tie in new drainage facilities and utility relocations, and demolish the existing bridge. Construction completion of the entire bridge project is scheduled for November 27, 2008
NJ DOT will have Variable Message Signs to inform motorists of the detour. Notice of the detour will be on the real-time section of its website: NJCommuter.com. All affected organizations have been contacted including emergency services and the West Windsor Plainsboro School District.
