NJ Department of Transportation
West Windsor Township to Host Pre-Construction Meeting for
Alexander Road Bridge Project
Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh has announced that the NJ Department of Transportation (DOT) will set up an open public meeting to present the preliminary construction schedule for the Alexander Road replacement bridge. The information center will be available from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 22, 2007. It will be held at the West Windsor Township Municipal Building, 271 Clarksville Road in the Council Meeting Room A.
The Alexander Road Bridge will be replaced at its current location and improvements will be made to the bridge, North Post Road and Alexander Road on the west side of the bridge. IEW Construction Group was awarded the contract; work is expected to start by the end of May.
Mayor Hsueh stated, “We are very anxious to see construction begin and are grateful to NJ DOT for funding this project. We are also pleased with the open and public process utilized by NJDOT during the design phase of the bridge and rotary. This public input was essential and the final product will reflect our community’s strong desire for safe pedestrian and bicycle movement across the tracks.”
The bridge will be one car lane in either direction, bicycle lanes on both sides, pedestrian walkways on both sides and crosswalks on North Post Road leading to the bridge. The rotary at the intersection of the bridge with North Post Road will allow traffic to flow onto and off of the bridge without a traffic signal. North Post Road will be elevated to meet the new height of the bridge required for Amtrak and NJ Transit train clearance.
