West Windsor Township Installs Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge over Big Bear Brook

Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced that the Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge over the Big Bear Brook has been delivered and is in the process of being installed.  “The bridge is installed,” said Mayor Hsueh.  “Now we need to construct the path within Community Park and along the PSE&G right-of-way to Rabbit Hill Road.  This will allow pedestrians and cyclists from the Rabbit Hill Road area to easily access Community Park as well as other locations south of Princeton-Hightstown Road (County Route 571).”

The path is approximately 3,000 linear feet of eight-foot wide macadam.  The bridge, which is designed for bicycle and pedestrian access only, is 8 feet wide and about 135 feet long.  The bow, truss-style, steel bridge features a parabolic curve and protective railing with a wooden deck.  The bridge spans Big Bear Brook along the northern portion of Community Park near the Grovers Mill Pond.  The bridge is funded by a $200,000 federal grant that U.S. Representative Rush Holt helped to secure. Mayor Hsueh said, “We are grateful to Congressman Holt for all of his efforts on behalf of West Windsor Township and its residents.  He has been very active on our behalf.”  Representative Holt joins Mayor Hsueh in inviting residents to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the bridge on Saturday, June 16th at 11 a.m.

Mayor Hsueh added, “This section of the pathway that runs along the PSE&G right-of-way should be completed this month.  We look forward to the completion of the entire stretch so that we can have an official opening with PSE&G later this summer.”
