West Windsor Township Receives Safe Routes to Transit Grant

Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh announced that West Windsor Township is the recipient of a $200,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).  This grant is part of a pilot program to provide safe and accessible means to transit facilities and to encourage more multi-modal use.  Mayor Hsueh said, “This new grant program from the State provided a pool of $1,000,000 for eligible municipalities.  It is another indication of the State’s strong support and commitment to transportation improvement-related initiatives.”

The letter from NJDOT Commissioner Kris Kolluri states that NJDOT has identified the area of North Post Road and Alexander Road as being an ideal location for improvements related to this program.  According to the letter, “This project provides three important bicycle and pedestrian connections and will complement the Alexander Road Bridge replacement project, and will improve access to the Princeton Junction Train Station, West Windsor High School, the Mercer County Library, and the Township Complex.”

Mayor Hsueh agreed with Commissioner Kolluri saying, “There is so much potential for residents and children to bike and walk in this area.  Once the new Alexander Road Bridge is erected with bike paths and sidewalks, those living on the west side of the Township will be able to walk or bike to services on the east side.  This grant will enable us to connect the bridge sidewalks and bike lanes further out to provide safe passage to the destinations cited by the NJDOT.”
