Christmas Tree Lighting & Drone Show on Sunday, December 7th - West Windsor Township will hold their Annual Christmas Tree Lighting at the Ron Rogers Arboretum at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Drone Show. Last year the yearly Fireworks were replaced by the Drone Show due to drought conditions. The Drone Show proved to be a hit so it is back by popular demand, bigger and better. It’s Sponsored by the West Windsor Recreation Commission. They are looking for donations to defray the cost of the Drone Show. Please donate generously.

Hope to see everyone at both events!

I understand people would like to get an update on the bridge situation more frequently. I do provide updates at the council meeting. Here is an update I provided at the meeting on Monday November 24th. The county, state DOT and township have met twice to discuss various options and actions required to reopen the bridge. I did speak to the DOT engineer yesterday and he is not comfortable reopening the bridge even in a limited capacity until they are able to provide additional support to the bridge deck. They are in the process of organizing a meeting with Amtrak next week. While waiting for the meeting the state DOT is working on a plan of action and proposals for Amtrak. How soon the bridge gets fixed depends largely on how long an outage Amtrak can provide daily to work on the bridge. We are pushing for the longest possible outage every day so the repairs can be finished quickly. While waiting for the meeting, the state DOT is mobilizing the resources required to repair the bridge. I have passed on the suggestions people have made to help with traffic congestion at Village and Quakerbridge intersection. I expect them to be implemented shortly. Both the county and State DOT have been extremely responsive and giving the situation priority it deserves. While we wait for the bridge to reopen, please help the local businesses that depend on traffic on Clarksville Road. They are all small businesses with many owners who are our neighbors. I will provide an update as soon as we meet with Amtrak and have a plan of action. Happy Thanksgiving to all. We have lot to be thankful for. Millstone Road Bridge over Millstone River is expected to be reopened to traffic the third week of December, subject to their being suitable weather for the necessary paving to occur.

The state DOT informed the county that they are going to close the bridge on Clarksville Road just North of Meadow Road starting NOVEMBER 2ND (Sunday morning) for emergency repairs. The duration of closure is not known at this point.

The Murphy Administration reminds motorists to be extra vigilant on roadways as the fall white-tailed deer rut, or mating season, gets underway. Increased deer activity related to the rutting season comes as the amount of daylight decreases, increasing collision risks, especially during morning and evening commutes. Peak mating season for deer in New Jersey runs from late October to mid-December. Awareness of the presence of deer near or on roadways will become even more important when daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2. - Read More!

On October 1st, the Murphy Administration issued a statewide Drought Watch strongly urging residents and businesses to voluntarily conserve water as a result of prolonged below-average precipitation that is stressing water supplies. SCHOOL’S BACK – AND SO ARE WE! The West Windsor Police Department is proud to launch Adopt A Bus. Every officer, detective, traffic officer, command staff, and even the Chief himself will be “adopting” a school bus. That means both marked and unmarked police cars will be following buses on random routes to make sure drivers obey the law. Too often, accidents happen because someone thinks the rules don’t apply to them. It’s simple: when you see red flashing lights and the stop sign arm extended, STOP – at least 25 feet away. Every child’s safety is everyone’s responsibility. New Jersey Law in short: • Stop at least 25 feet away from a bus with flashing red lights and stop arm extended. • On a DIVIDED (Median or Barrier) highway ONLY, stop only if you’re on the same side of the road as the bus. • Amber/yellow flashing lights = slow down and prepare to stop. Let’s work together to keep our kids safe. Please share this message and remind your family and friends: It’s not just the law – it’s common sense. Stay Safe & Warm! Chief Garofalo & The Entire WWPD
