What happens if I miss my court date?

If you are scheduled for court and neglect to appear, you will receive notice from the court. The judge may fine you for your failure to appear. For repeated failure to come before the court, the judge will likely issue a warrant for your arrest, and your driving privileges may be suspended. Failing to appear before the judge is considered contempt of court, and any fines issued by the judge will be in addition to any fines you may incur from the original offense. The judge may also order your incarceration for contempt of court.

What if I move, and don't receive a court notice?

You are responsible for notifying the court at the above telephone number of any change in your address. Failure to notify the court may result in missed court dates and subsequent fines.

If I have a large fine to pay, can I pay it off a little at a time?

You may apply to the court for a time payment plan. Failure to comply with the terms of the time payment plan may result in a warrant for your arrest being issued.

I want to fight a ticket, but can't afford an attorney; will the court provide me with one?

The West Windsor Township Municipal Court offers a Public Defender for offenses that have the potential to result in serious penalties, such as license suspension, large fines and the possibility of jail time. For minor traffic offenses, you may hire an attorney at your own expense or you may defend yourself in court. Keep in mind that if you are applying for the Public Defender, you may be required to pay an application fee.
