Even as vaccination efforts have started, we still continue to see 6 to 8 new cases every day.

This week the state informed Mercer County that the county will be getting a total of 800 doses per week for the entire county (population 370,000). Starting next week, the county is responsible for distributing those doses. As off this evening the county has not decided how to fairly distribute those doses. Until this week, the municipal health officers throughout the county have worked collaboratively to conduct two clinics every week in different towns to vaccinate those eligible under state guidelines.

Last Friday West Windsor opened pre-registration portal for residents 65 years and older for future clinics.  We received 20 times more names than the supply we received.  We recognize that there are many people in our community who are now eligible to be vaccinated and eager to do so.  We simply do not have enough vaccine to meet the current demand and don’t expect additional doses in the near future.  The state is encouraging the public to use the central vaccination registration system available at:  http://covid19.nj.gov/vaccine .  This registration may become mandatory in the near future. We strongly encourage residents to sign up if you have not done so already.

Our local health department is prepared to conduct clinics if more doses of vaccine become available.  When an appointment is open for you through our health department, we will notify you by phone or email. If you have an opportunity to be vaccinated at another location, we encourage you to secure the first available appointment.  The Township will continue to work with the county and other outside groups to get our residents vaccinated as fast as we can.  Please be patient and continue to monitor for updates.   I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thanks to Paul Ligeti and West Windsor Historical Society for contributing today’s picture of the power station at Princeton Junction off of Wallace road. The power station has been operating since 1933; much before many of us were born. You can find more information about history of West Windsor on Historical Society’s Facebook page.

Please continue to follow guidelines and be safe.  My next update will be on Friday Jan 22nd.
